Registered Campers
All camps run from 9:00 to 4:15 pm; the programs are the same for overnight and day campers. Regular drop-off starts at 8:30 am and regular pick-up ends at 4:45 pm. Early drop-off starts at 7:30 am and late pick-up ends at 5:30 pm.
THE OVERNIGHT PROGRAM
We are very proud of our overnight program, and encourage anyone eligible (even if you live right across the road from the University!) to consider it. Usually our youngest "overnighters" are rising 5th graders. Thay stay in Witherspoon Hall, a safe (locked) building, with overnight security and a resident housing co-ordinator who is an adult employee of the University. Our counselors are well trained and many have First Aid certification. We usually have 7 - 8 counselors staying in the residence hall with an average of 40 campers, so there’s plenty of supervision. Evenings are full of activity – from swimming and other organized (or disorganized!) games, to campus tours, to a star party in the observatory, to the infamous Talent Show, to meeting with college students and professors in cool departments, to “drop everything and read” last thing at night … there’s simply no time to get bored! Please encourage your overnight campers to participate in our 30 minutes of reading every evening, by making sure they have a book they’ll enjoy. (We have a small library too.) Our counselors are highly trained in nagging! We think the overnight option is a great opportunity for young people to live on a college campus and get a taste of where education can lead them.
PLEASE have campers leave valuables at home! They can’t bring computers or TVs, and we strongly discourage cell phones. These are not allowed in classrooms, and are THE one item most likely to be lost. Every year we observe that they keep children from making personal connections with new friends. We can arrange for your child to make or receive a phone call at any time, through a counselor, camp leader, or our office.

EVENING ACTIVITIES 2009
There is swimming every evening in the University pool between 6:30 and 7:15, so don't forget your swimsuit and towel. And you should bring a favorite book for Drop Everything And Read every night. (Otherwise we'll make you read one of our collection of Victorian novels.)
Monday evenings at 7:30, (after swimming) be ready for some fun outdoor activities with the Venture program.
Tuesday is "Undercover University" night - your chance to go behind the scenes at UNC Charlotte and learn about some cool professors and their research, from Motorsports to Marine Ecology, or behind the scenes at Belk Theater. On Tuesdays, Aspire! participants also get to meet with a representative from our Admissions office, so if you have questions about UNC Charlotte or about being admitted to college, this is your chance to get them answered!
On Wednesday evenings, all Aspire! participants meet with Timeka Ruffin, a representative of the College Foundation of North Carolina, for an informational session covering college applications, career advice, scholarship opportunities, etc..
Thursday night is your opportunity to show off at "So You Think You're Talented!" in the Black Box theater.
FOOD 2009
Overnight campers get a meal card to cover meals between breakfast Monday and lunch Friday, as well as advice from their counselors on how to make it last all week! (Have dinner/supper on Sunday before arriving on campus between 7:00 and 8:00 pm.) Day campers may choose to bring a lunch, or to buy one here. Participants in each program will eat together, with their counselor, in the Prospector restaurant. Please be aware that there are many different sections in the restaurant building, but we simply don't have the staff to escort each child individually to his or her favorite food station. Chartwell's catering services have very kindly made available to us the special camps menu here for $5.00 including tax; a counselor will help the younger children collect and pay for this meal.
Older campers can choose to buy lunch at one of the 5 different "stations" in the Prospector Building - Coyote Jack's, Mama Leone's, Chick-fil-A, Mondo Subs or Salsarita's. You can use this dining services link: http://www.dineoncampus.com/unccharlotte/index.cfm to get an idea of the menus and prices. These are designed for college students and may be too big and too expensive for smaller children. The Prospector is very crowded at lunchtimes and we don't let the smaller children go alone to a different station, so if your child wants to buy lunch and is too young to manage the transaction alone, in the interests of safety we will use the Camps menu above.

It won the NAASS Creative and Innovative Programs award in 1994. Dr. Jack Piel and Dr. Ken Burrows presented this paper at the North American Association of Summer Sessions annual meeting at Kansas City in fall 2006. It celebrates how MathCAMMP has thrived in the 12 years since winning this award.
